We all know that person that is impossible to shop for because it seems like they already have everything. Still, you have to get them something — something you hope doesn’t end up in the trash next week. And really, do any of us need more stuff?
The solution: Experience Gifts. Gifting an experience is great because you don’t have to worry about finding the right size or color, you can typically buy last minute, and, best of all, experiences create lasting memories. They’re really the gifts that keep on giving!
Whether it’s for Christmas, a birthday, or just to show you care, here are 20 awesome experiences you can gift to adults!

1. Concert Tickets (With a twist)
Just hope they aren’t expecting Taylor Swift tickets… Give them the opportunity to see one of their favorite artists performing live. Tickets also don’t have to be expensive. I’ve been able to get GA tickets for some of my favorite artists for around $50.
If you’re looking for something a little more unique and unexpected, you can give them a ticket to a Sofar Sounds event. They offer secret concerts around the world for around $20/person. The exact address is revealed only 24 hours before the event and you don’t know who the performers are until you’re hearing them! It’s an incredible experience I would gift to anyone that loves music and surprises.
If they’re more into classical music, you can gift a Candlelight Concert! Right now in Chicago they’re offering concerts inspired by Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Hans Zimmer, ABBA, and more.
2. zip-lining
For the thrill-seeker, give them the gift of zip-lining! This is one of my favorite things to do. Many places that offer zip-lining also offer ropes courses, so this could be an all day experience! If you’re in the Chicago area, I recommend Go Ape in Western Springs or The Forge in Lemont.
3. Annual pass (theme park, museums, etc)
Is there a place that you know they love to visit? Theme parks and museums usually offer annual passes so they can visit year round! Personally, I would be stoked to get a pass to the Art Institute of Chicago.
4. movie pass
Do they love seeing movies on the big screen? Many theaters offer a movie pass (such as the AMC A List) that will allow them to see as many movies as they want! Alternatively, you could cover the annual subscription cost of a streaming platform like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc.
5. house cleaning
I know it seems boring, but any busy mom (or any busy.. or lazy… person for that matter) would LOVE the gift of someone taking over the cleaning! You’re giving the gift of relaxation, extra free time, and a clean space. That’s pretty hard to beat. You can gift a one time cleaning or a couple sessions.
6. Music lessons
Are they an amateur musician? Help them improve on the instrument they love by gifting music lessons. If you don’t know of anyone in your community who teaches their instrument, try TakeLessons. You can find in-person or virtual lessons and see instructor reviews. This is actually where I found my piano instructor a few years ago!
7. professional photoshoot
This gift works great for moms (who never get enough photos with their kids), couples, teens, college students, and pretty much anyone else who loves having memories on camera. For the young professional, you could also get them professional headshots.
8. Fresh flower subscription
If they love flowers, this is the perfect gift. This does involve a physical gift, but I say having fresh flowers to put out every month counts as an experience. Starting at $55/delivery, you can have fresh floral arrangements sent to their house weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Check it out on Urban Stems!
9. masterclass
Give the gift of learning pretty much anything they’ve ever wanted! Masterclass offers unlimited courses taught by experts and celebrities on writing, fashion, wellness, cooking, and more for $15/month.
10. cooking kits
For busy people that want to be able to make homemade meals, check out cooking kits. I’ve personally used Hello Fresh and I can honestly say I really enjoyed all of the meals! Other popular options are Home Chef and Blue Apron.
11. spa day
This can be one experience or several put together for an entire day of relaxation. Some ideas are mani/pedi, salt cave, massage, and hair treatment.
12. sporting event tickets
For the sports fanatic, give the gift of cheering on their favorite team surrounded by other fans. Whether it’s football, baseball, hockey, or basketball, you can usually find a ticket that fits your budget.
13. national parks pass
When I was traveling a lot, this was one of the best purchases I ever made and I would have LOVED to receive it as a gift. Plus I feel like not enough people know about it. For just $80 your recipient can visit any of the US National Parks and recreational lands for FREE as many times as they want for an entire year. You can purchase one online from the USGS store or in person at any REI or National Park.
14. theater ticket
Do they love plays, musicals, and the arts? Check out what’s happening at your local theater and snag a seat or two.
15. wine tasting
For those who are more refined, a wine tasting is a great way to unwind! Check Yelp for a winery in your area with good reviews and present the experience with a bottle of their favorite wine.
16. skydiving
So long as they don’t have a fear of heights, skydiving is on just about everyone’s bucket list. Help them cross it off with a skydiving session! Most places give you the option to buy a video/photo package to commemorate their jump.
17. indoor skydiving
For those who are less willing to jump out of a plane but still love a little thrill, take them out to indoor skydiving! I’ve done this many times and it’s sooo fun. IFly is a popular chain of indoor skydiving that you can find in lots of major cities!
18. tattoo
This certainly isn’t for everyone, but if you know they’ve been wanting a tattoo (whether it’s their first or their fourteenth) this is a gift they’ll never be able to forget! Present the gift with some tattoo aftercare products (like this healing balm). You can also offer to accompany them to the appointment.
19. workout classes
Health is the gift that keeps on giving! Workout classes can be sooo expensive (seriously) so you know they’ll appreciate this. Even if it’s just a one month pass, they’ll be able to enjoy their workouts without feeling guilty about the cost.
20. weekend away
If you’re okay with spending a little more, give them a weekend away (or longer) from home. Pick out a hotel/AirBnb and maybe reserve a couple of activities or meals. A super cute way to present this would be to make a short presentation with the itinerary hyping up the trip you’ve planned for them!
